Pietermaritzburg is the largest city in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and its weather is generally very close to that of Howick where we run some of our workshops. Howick is set at 1000 m and its climate is superb - warm days, cool nights with a touch of frost during the winter months.

Bethlehem is the regions largest town is is located approximately 30 km from Clarens where we run our Earth Science workshops. Again the weather of Bethlehem will be very close to that of Clarens. The altitude keeps temperatures moderate and when we venture into Lesotho and the highest road in Africa, temperatures can fall well below zero degrees Celsius. Snow can fall at any time of the year and has been recorded not ten days after the summer solstice.

Richards Bay is located approximately 100 km south of Hluhluwe and the Bonamanzi Game Reserve. In this part of the world it is very hot and humid and the temperature graphs below bear tis out.
