DRAWING & PAINTING SAFARIS WITH ANDRE DE LA ROSA

Andre de la Rosa runs Old Canvas Expedition's drawing and painting workshops. She has a diploma in fine art from what was then the Natal Technikon, with specialisation in print making. She has also taken courses in classical painting and this is where her first love lies, painting for several galleries in Durban and the Natal Midlands area. She has also for many years run a screen printing and fabric painting business, supplying the arts and craft industry nationwide. On the teaching front she has run drawing courses, using the techniques developed by Betty Edwards "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", whereby the creative but less dominant right brain is coaxed into action to the surprise of all, especially the students. Andre firmly believes that anyone can draw, particularly if they follow the techniques she presents in her drawing and painting workshops.

Specifically the workshop comprises a three day drawing and painting course. Basic drawing skills are developed, following which Andre will introduce you the classical painting technique which has been used by many of the Old Masters. The technique allows for more control of the media and applied skillfully will produce a painting with deep undertones which are impossible to achieve using less rigorous methods. Prior to you launching into the painting of your own masterpiece she will guide you through the various media (oils and acrylics) as well as the theory of colour mixing. Once through the basics you will have the opportunity to decide on a subject, sketch it out and then bring it to life on the canvas under Andre's watchful eye.
